Wicked Envy – Sawyer Bennett

The best of friends.

Two men. One woman.

A sinful playground called The Wicked Horse.

Entrepreneur turned millionaire, Dane Hawthorne, has been known to get his kicks at The Wicked Horse Vegas, and he has no shortage of beautiful women waiting for a shot at him. Driven to succeed, no matter if he’s in the boardroom or the bedroom, Dane never backs down from a challenge.

Avril Carrigan isn’t the type of woman to take risks in her personal life but after a broken heart and too much liquid courage, Avril decides to best way to get over one man, is to get under another. Looking to experience all the debauchery she’s heard about from her best friend and business partner, Dane, she requests one thing of him—take her to The Wicked Horse.

The request seems simple. One friend helping another in her time of need. But now that they’ve crossed the threshold, things aren’t as easy as they once seemed. Not only is Dane looking at Avril in a new light, but so is their other business partner and best friend, Andrew Collings. As Dane’s envy blooms, he wonders if he made the right decision when he agreed to show Avril his wicked world.

What happens when the lines of friendship are blurred and boundaries are crossed? Will their relationships survive or will jealousy tear them all apart?

3.5 – 4 Best Friends to Lovers Stars

Is three really a crowd?

Or could it be a recipe for even more hotness to ensue? This series continues to explore sexual boundaries and push right past them. In this installment, three best friends explore their relationship outside of the confines of their mutual love and friendship. Pushing past those boundaries opens them up to discover truths they may never have scratched the surface of.

Here’s what I loved:

The book is undeniably hot. As with all the books in this series, there are quite a bit of steamy scenes. These are taken up a level or two since, the characters are exploring a triangle relationship.

I enjoyed the dynamic between Andrew, Dane, and Avril. They love and respect on a basic level. While there’s an underlying attraction, neither of them wanted to damage their most important relationship, friendship.

I particularly loved Dane. I’m all for the dark, strong, commanding type. He fit the bill perfectly. Avril is also impressive, in that, she owns her femininity and strength as a sexual being. She didn’t buy into the whole male ego BS Dane and Andrew initially threw at her.

Overall, this book is a win, but I did have an issue initially getting into it. It seemed to be a little too much history and exposition. Also, I felt the actual Wicked Horse setting got lost eventually. Just my two cents. But other than that, another fine addition to the series. I’m anxiously awaiting more.

3.5 stars

I think I need to start this review by saying that triangle stories are either hits or misses for me.

I applaud Sawyer Bennett for writing this sexy triangle in such an unique way. Avril, Dane and Andrew had an amazing bond and friendship ever since college. They met early on and stuck together all the way to present times, 20 years later.

By chance, one of them had a membership to The Wicked Horse and invited the others to come along. There, in such an erotic environment all bets were off, limits were tested and borders crossed. The three friends suddenly found themselves in a tangled mess of feelings, urges and sexually charged bodies.

Now let’s get to the crucial point….

I thought the author solved the triangle in an interesting way but also left me strangely unsatisfied. As I mentioned at the beginning, not many triangle stories work for me. I need to feel the need to be together, a reason why two people are not enough in a relationship. Now, if it’s just a threesome for a night or two, I’m totally fine with it, but I had the feeling that there was supposed to be more between Avril, Dane and Andrew than what they ended up with.

I also was missing the WICKED HORSE. Not many scenes were happening at the club, and the forbidden and erotically charged atmosphere that I adored so much was solely missing in Wicked Envy.

Unfortunately Wicked Envy fell a bit flat for me. After absolutely ADORING Wicked Wish, book 3 just didn’t reach the AWESOMENESS of book 2.

Now, that’s no reason not to try this book. Like I said, I personally have a hard time getting into a triangle story, and WICKED ENVY wasn’t as much triangle as a threesome, so you might like it just fine. But what I can say for certain is that this series is a MUST READ!! I was blown away by book 1&2 and can’t wait to read more. If I’m right, there will be quite a few more books coming in this series.
