Weekly Recap – Getting Ready

Welcome to my weekly recap,

For all of you who have been so incredibly kind last week and left comments about this horrific condition in Napa and Sonoma, I have good news. Finally after a week and a half we received rain and it looks like out of the 18 large wildfires in Northern California most fires have been to 80% and upwards contained.

The Air quality has been better as well. This week on Wednesday it became so bad that people started walking around town with pollution masks. I felt like living in China for a day. But since then we were able to breathe again without worrying about our health.

For all of us outside of the immediate fire zone, life goes on.

In my case, I’m prepping for VEGAS.

LOVE’N Vegas

Next Friday I will be on my way to Vegas, with a suitcase full of books. YAY

Look at this lineup!!!!

I have 22 authors on my list!!! And I’m the first to admit that 22 authors in 5 hours is INSANE! Maybe even impossible. Honestly I have no idea if it’s doable or not, I’ll find out. But I’m pretty stoked to be there. It’s my biggest event yet, and I’m already a bit nervous and a touch overwhelmed just thinking about it.

So far, every single book signing event I’ve been to has been great. Talking to authors gets easier with each event, and I’m more comfortable about approaching authors and asking for swag etc. Which was a HUGE accomplishment, because, asking for swag without having a book to be signed or intending to buy a book left me feeling awkward. It was like me asking for free stuff without giving the author something in return.

Anyhow, I’m getting better at it.

Are any of you going to Vegas next weekend? I would love to meet up!!!

BTW – we are taking requests on the blog for a possible signed paperback from any of these authors that are going to Vegas. Here is your chance to let us know which book you would like me to take home with me.

Now let’s get to some blog stuff….

The blog had an amazing week.

I don’t want to jinx it but this month has been the BEST so far in regards to traffic. I love seeing an upward trend, and I understand that there will always be month when the numbers stagnate and plateau until the next upwards push. But October has been a great month, with lot’s of ideas to continue and build on as well as some things that just didn’t work out as expected.

Our numbers are looking great, and I’m now much more confident contacting publishers. Which I did this week. I saw a book on NetGalley which I really want, but it had that blasted WISH button. So I wrote to the publisher, maybe it will help, maybe not. The results aren’t in yet, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed and you posted.

No big changes on NetGalley this week.

I added a Christmas themed book by Lauren Layne. I really like her fluffy and sweet novels and have high hopes that An Ex for Christmas is going to be a wonderful seasonal novel. Actually it’s my FIRST Christmas themed book this year. I’m really excited about it.

And I received Cherish Hard by Nalini Singh which I’m stoked about!!! I love this authors, really, really love her!!! So, getting this book meant a lot. It’s a first in a new series. The hero’s family has been featured in ROCK HARD -which I adored!!! And now she is going to write about the rest of them – at least I hope she’ll do so.

This week’s book haul was ok, nothing too exciting.

I’m still keeping myself contained, you could call me “picky” which helps. On the other hand I now have more time to write blog posts like this one.

Besides the books from NetGalley, my only ARC this week was

The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey ( which already started)

Now my audiobook situation looks VERY different….

I have a surplus of audiobooks and don’t know where to start.

This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1) by Victoria Schwab (currently listening to)

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1) by Cassandra Clare

Devil in Spring (The Ravenels #3) by Lisa Kleypas

The Marriage Contract (The O’Malleys #1) by Katee Robert

The Thousandth Floor (The Thousandth Floor #1) by Katharine McGee

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare

Thank you so much for coming by!!

I appreciate every single one of you and I’m looking forward to next week.

A HUGE thank you to The Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer for creating this meme.

  1. Fantastic week!!!! I’m so glad the blog has more traffic even without appearing on the reader. You both deserve this!

    1. Jessica, you are too kind!!! I have your blog on my MUST VISIT list 😀 With my job not being in an office, I try to visit at least once a week, but I never know when I have time. But I’ll get there. 😀 Thank you so much for visiting.

  2. That must be scary to be so close to those forest fires, but I am glad this week was better and the air quality improved.

That’s awesome you’re going to a bookish event soon. i hope you have an amazing time there and get to see most of those authors on your list.

I have some weeks when I do well with not accepting or requesting too many review copies and other weeks I suddenly get a bunch of them, but there are so many awesome books out there.

    Have a great week!

    1. Hi Lola, you are so right. I have some weeks when one book after another arrives on my kindle, and others when nothing happens. Like the saying, when it rains it pours. 😀 But that’s ok, like you said, there are so many great books out there just waiting to be read.

Have a great day and happy reading!!

  3. You reviewed some great sounding books last week!! I’m behind on my blog hopping, but checking them out now 🙂 Also, very jealous about your signing event. I have now idea how you’d narrow down that list of authors to just a few you’d want to see – definitely some of my favorites on that list!

    1. lol Mallory – narrowing down the list wasn’t easy.:D We went with our most favorite and depending on how well it goes and how much time is left I’ll add some more.

    1. Thannya – thank you so much!!!! I’m still new to requesting books from publishers, so the waiting is going to kill me. 😀 Vegas might just a bit too much – but I’m still going to enjoy the heck out of it. Thanks for coming by, have a great day and happy reading!!

  4. Whoo hoo! Have an awesome time in Vegas. I hope to go to a romance theme con one of these days. They had a big one in NYC last weekend, but I had already booked my trip to visit my daughter when my friend asked me to go. One of these days…. I have A Taxonomy of Love as well. It looks really good. I am still working on my Oct review books *shame*, but it slows down for me in Dec. Then I will read all my romance books I bought. =) Have an amazing and safe trip.

    1. The Big Apple event looked awesome!! Their line up was as great as the one in Vegas, I was so torn between choosing which one to go to. At the end Vegas won, since it’s so much closer for me.

Taxonomy of Love sounded so good!! I hope I’ll like it, I’m afraid to jinx myself. 😀

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

  5. Have fun in Vegas! That’s a lot of authors and a lot of them are very popular! Glad to hear the fires are about 80% contained and the air quality is better!

I think you’ll love the audio version of Devil in Spring, Mary Jane Wells is soooo good! 🙂

    1. Thank you Rachel!!! I’m 100% Vegas is going to be a blast, just have to go with a realistic expectation. And yes, you can’t imagine how we all feel in the Bay Area, it was quite horrifying.
I’ll let you know how Devil in Spring turned out.:D I don’t read historical romance as much anymore, I listened to the latest Tessa Dare two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. So changes are I’ll love it.

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

    1. Hi, thank you so much!! We can definitely use the rain, and more is always welcome. And I’ll report how Vegas went, maybe this time even with photos. 😀

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

  6. I really want to try some of Katee Robert’s books, I didn’t even consider giving them a go on audio! And your book photos are so pretty! I received a copy of Hooking Up this week, so I’m glad to see that you enjoyed it! I hope you enjoy your author event, I’ll get to meet Mariana Zapata in a few weeks and I can’t wait! I hope you have a great week! 🙂

    1. Jasprit, it will be my first Katee Robert as well. I saw it on someone’s list and liked how it sounded. Audiobook, surprisingly enough, often helps with books that I would not have read otherwise. I’m a fickle reader. I pretty quickly DNF, but if it’s an audiobook it has a better chance of being finished. 😀 I’ll check back later and see how you liked Hooking Up. And yay to Mariana – she is my unicorn author, I’m so looking forward to meeting her. ;D

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

  7. Yay for Vegas! I hope you have a great time and get all the books signed you really want. Yay for a great numbers on your blog as well. I know what I need to do to increase traffic, but I haven’t had much time. My Miguel is leaving for a few days this week so maybe instead of TV I can get caught up and get my numbers up too. Happy reading and safe travels!

    1. Karen, l wish I had more hours in a day.:D More reading, more blogging…. life would be so much better. Years ago I was such TV addict.:D Netflix and TIVO ruled my life. And let’s not talk about all the Facebook games I played. Now, it’s just books and blogging and I still feel like I don’t have enough hours to do everything I want to do. Vegas will be my biggest signing yet and all I hope for is having a blast. 😀

    1. Thank you Geybie!!!!! I’ll be reporting:D Vegas will be a blast – not only the city, add the great food, and now the book event- it’s a fun combination.

Have a great day and happy reading!!

  8. I’m so glad to hear those wildfires are starting to be contained!

I hope you have an amazing time on your trip to Vegas. I’ve never been there but it’s definitely on my travel bucket list.

I hope you’re enjoying This Savage Song. I loved it and actually just received Our Dark Duet yesterday as a bday gift, so I’m excited about that.

    Happy reading!

    1. I just started Our Dark Duet yesterday, I went directly from Savage Song to book2. Couldn’t wait another minute. Loved the books so far. And thank you so much!!! I hope Vegas will be a blast. 😀

Have a great day and happy reading!!

  9. I hope you enjoy your first Christmas read of the season 🙂 Have a great time in Vegas!

That’s scary about the fires 🙁 I hate fire season (we’re just heading into ours now) and am very grateful we’re not in an area that’s usually impacted by them. It’s great things are finally getting back to normal for you.

    1. Hi Wattle, California usually has wildfires each year. This year was bad since it destroyed entire neighborhoods. And there were so many at the same time. I hate them too, and I’m glad I don’t live in a wooded area.

I’m really looking forward to the Christmas read;-) it will get me into the holiday spirit early on. I might get bit by the Christmas bug and read only holiday books until December.;-)

Have a great day and happy reading!!
