CORINA’S REVIEW

AUDIOBOOK

This review was not an easy one to write.

On one hand I really enjoyed some aspects of this book, on the other hand I had some real issues with some of the characters and their choices. Raina, her grandmother, her mother – I could go on. I had real trouble connecting with any of the characters. And some of the choices these characters made drove me up the wall.

Going into this book I expected the story to be mainly about the matchmaking efforts and the dates, and it certainly was part of this book. But what I didn’t expect was an old love to pop up and the way that Raina still mooned over him. It overshadowed the entire story. And I must admit her non-stop pining and the way she longed for her “life” and “love” with Dave was becoming tiring pretty quickly.

I did wonder if this book was closer to women’s fiction than romance. It didn’t really feel like a romance to me.

Nevertheless, I really wished I liked Raina more. But the way she was around Dave, her grandmother, family and Asher was not something that synced with me. On top of that, the mistakes and choices that were made by Raina, and the repercussions that eventually caught up with her didn’t make me like her or this book any more either.

But what I will say is, the scenes between Raina and Asher were something I was looking forward to. Their banter and chemistry were entertaining, and exactly what I love. The pull and push, the laughter, banter, attraction, but also the hate to love vibe – it all gave me the FEELS that I adore.

About the audiobook: I really enjoyed it and had no problem finishing it pretty quickly. The narrator did a wonderful job. Speed, narration and voices were on par with comparable audiobooks.

Raina Anand may have finally given in to family pressure and agreed to let her grandmother play matchmaker, but that doesn’t mean she has to like it–or that she has to play by the rules. Nani always took Raina’s side when she tried to push past the traditional expectations of their tight-knit Indian-immigrant community, but now she’s ambushing Raina with a list of suitable bachelors. Is it too much to ask for a little space? Besides, what Nani doesn’t know won’t hurt her…

As Raina’s life spirals into a parade of Nani-approved bachelors and disastrous blind dates, she must find a way out of this modern-day arranged-marriage trap without shattering her beloved grandmother’s dreams.
