This book has been a highly anticipated release for many. From the blurb to the cover – a winner on both accounts. Furthermore if you are a fan of friends-to-lovers trope this book is a must read.

For a debut novel, The Friend Zone was very well written, funny at times, and with a sassy heroine – it had lots to offer. It’s one of those friends-to-lovers books that feature the perfect couple only for them to take the entire book to realize it.

I loved Kristen. She was a gal that really didn’t care what anyone else thought of her. In your face honest, real and all herself – she was the perfect girlfriend material – especially for Josh.

The author couldn’t have written Josh any better. Besides being a picture perfect boyfriend for Kristen, he clicked with her on EVERY level. They matched in every conceivable way, except for ONE. And that was what brought this book to a screeching halt for me.

The author wrote a couple that worked so perfectly together, just to be kept apart by not talking to each other. It felt like Kristen strung Josh along for 2/3 of the book. However the hot and cold, pull and push drove me nuts.

Regardless, I really enjoyed the raw and real topic the author decided to tackle in this book. Unquestionably it gave the book meaning and substance. Which it needed, because unfortunately I became bored with Kristen and Josh after 1/3 of the story. Especially when it all started to sound the same. In essence it felt like Josh and Kristen made goo goo eyes at each other for the entire book. They took a step forward in their relationship just to be brought to a halt again. All because Kristen had this idea of what she thought Josh wanted without ever confirming it with him. Even though her best friend told her numerous times to talk to him. It got old after awhile.

Nevertheless there was no doubt that their feelings for each other was real, deep, and passionately. It was palpable how much they liked each other, and enjoyed each other’s company. Not surprisingly, since they were so evenly and perfectly matched. So, the forced distance by Kristen was aggravating.

Even though the book wasn’t the right one for me, it will be a hit with many other readers. The emotional depth and well written prose throughout the book has promise, and I’m definitely looking forward to more by this author.

The Friend Zone – Abby Jimenez

The Friend Zone - Abby JimenezKristen Petersen doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen—especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.
