I must say The Dysasters was a  gorgeous and beautifully designed hardcover book. Without it a special edition. I love it when publishers and authors go the extra mile for their readers, and design a product that’s just unique and visually pleasing with beautiful artwork, and many graphic novel drawings throughout the novel. It all added to the overall unique reading experience.

The novel is a young adult fantasy story, but felt more like a middle school read. The story drew from the idea of genetically modified embryos that eventually turned teenagers into supernaturally gifted adolescents. It definitely reminded me of X-men, as well as the Fantasic Four and every other movie about super heroes.

While the story didn’t wow me, it didn’t bore me either. I thought the authors kept the overall plot hip, and trendy. Dialogues and characters were well written. And the story on its own was interesting enough for me to keep on reading.

One of my favorite characters was Tate’s grandpa. Loved him to pieces. I hope he’ll play a future role in the next book, because he really was a joy, and the kids could use some parental help and support. Some of the other adults were getting on my nerves, but that was probably intentionally on the authors’ part.

Even though the book didn’t end in a cliffhanger, the story arc wasn’t finished either. It will be interesting to see it all goes.

The audiobook was well done, from voices to speed and nuances the female narrator did a wonderful job.

The Dysasters - P.C. CastFoster Stewart knows she’s different. Her life has never been “normal.” Talking to plants and controlling cloud formations aren’t things most seventeen year olds are into. Tate “Nighthawk” Taylor is perfect. Star quarterback and all around dreamy boy next door he never thought about his “extra” abilities. What quarterback wouldn’t want night vision? That’s not weird, right? It’s cool!

But on the night of their first meeting a deadly tornado brings them together and awakens their true abilities – the power to control the element air. Unbeknown to Tate and Foster, they are the first in a group of teens that were genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements. Which truly sucks for Foster, as she has to face the fact that Dr. Rick Stewart, her beloved scientist father, betrayed her and now wants to use her and the others for his own nefarious world domination plot.

Foster and Tate must stop Dr. Stewart and his minions before he destroys their lives and the world.
