CORINA’S REVIEW

KINDLE UNLIMTED

This is my second time picking up ONE, the first time was when I went on a tiny binge reading spree after falling in love with Look The Part. I wanted to see if any of the author’s other books would touch me as much as LTP did.

Unfortuanly that was not the case.

And that’s why I DNFed ONE the first time around. I just wasn’t amazed by it. Now a year after my book-hangover from hell, I was able to appreciate the book for what it is, an entertaining, at times very emotional book, that has all of the JEA signature humor I’ve come to love.

Still, even after a year and reading a couple other books by her, ONE was only an OK book in my eyes. Unfortunately I’ll always compare everything she writes with Look The Part. And because of it ONE was just ordinary. Maybe ordinary is not the best way to describe it because an ordinary Jewel E Ann book is still miles better than any other ordinary romance novel.

Because Jewel E Ann knows how to write. I especially love her signature wit and sass. It helps that the author’s humor is right up my alley.

I’ve come to expect above average characters from this author, and as always she delivered. She writes fantastic characters, from main to support – her cast is always phenomenal. Lake was one spunky and funny heroine, and I absolutely adored Cage, he was swoony, I actually became addicted to his “I love you’s”. Both protagonists were lovable, and genuine in their affection for each other.

But most of all her humor does it for me, and ONE had a good amount of it, enough to keep me smiling.

So, why didn’t I rate it higher?

I was just not that into the story. Mostly because of the emotional back and forth. Even though Lake and Cage loved each other beyond measure, even going so far and calling the other THE ONE, but they still had these stupid misunderstandings and fears that didn’t make any sense. It ruined the flow of the story. It actually felt chopped because of it. And mostly because of that I wasn’t happy with the last third of the book.

But although ONE wasn’t her best book, it’s still a book that many will love, just going by the overall emotional love-story, the heartwarming scenes and heart-tugging ending.

BLURB

ONE by Jewel E AnnLake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.

Until …

God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.

It was one day.
One moment.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.

His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.

When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.

“We would be Cage and Lake. lWe would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”
