Nightchaser – Amanda Bouchet

I was so extremely excited to be able to pick up the first book in Amanda Bouchet’s new trilogy. And since I love a great science fiction novel, I couldn’t wait to start reading.

This book had everything that belongs into a fantastic read.

A strong, kick-ass heroine. A heroic male lead that is destined to help his female counterpart, and a supporting cast that showed promise.

Unfortunately all in all the novel didn’t reach its potential. At least not for me.

I truly loved the author’s first trilogy. The banter, the energy and the action – I loved EVERYTHING!!!

This time around it felt like the banter between the characters was missing. And the entire love story felt more like an afterthought, more like a slow burn, which isn’t bad at all, but it didn’t add any excitement to the story either.

I think my main issue was that nothing was truly memorable, unique or fascinating about Nightchaser. I wanted to be WOWed and that just didn’t happen. The story was missing something and I’m still trying to figure out what it was exactly.  Maybe I needed more dialogues between the characters, and for a space adventure it was definitely low on action, but also the characters weren’t as unique as you would imagine in a sci-fi novel.

Now I’m not saying I won’t read the next book, because I definitely will pick it up. The story has promise and I’m looking forward to see how Tess and Shade manage to deal with certain events, but Nightchaser was nothing like A Promise of Fire. And I must admit I’m a little disappointed. I had high hopes, maybe they were too high.

ARC generously provided in exchange for an honest review.

Pestilence – Laura Thalassa

Nightchaser – Amanda Bouchet

Captain Tess Bailey and her crew of Robin Hood-like thieves are desperate and on the run. Pursued by a vicious military general who wants them dead or alive, Tess has to decide if she can trust Shade Ganavan, a tall, dark and arrogant stranger with ambiguous motivations.

Shade Ganavan had oodles of arrogance, oodles of charm, and oodles of something that made me want to kick him in the nuts.

What Tess and Shade don’t know about each other might get them killed…unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other—while ignoring their off-the-charts chemistry.

Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England where she spent much of her time tromping around in the woods and making up grand adventures in her head. It was inevitable that one day she would start writing them down. Drawing on her Greek heritage for the setting and on her love of all things daring and romantic for the rest, her debut trilogy, The Kingmaker Chronicles, took form. She writes what she loves to read: epic exploits, steamy romance, and characters that make you laugh and cry.

A French master’s graduate and former English teacher, Amanda lives in Paris, France. She met her husband while studying abroad, and the family now includes two bilingual children who will soon be correcting her French.
