My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies #1) by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows

This comical, fantastical, romantical, New York Times bestselling, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey is “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

This book was hilarious!!! From beginning to end I was laughing out loud, talking to the characters and just plainly having fun. Kudos to the narrator who did an amazing job, she really added another level of fun to an already extremely funny story.

I should mention at the beginning, this book is almost a parody of what really happened. And the authors took and changed history in a very liberating way. Except for the characters, most of this story is fiction and with a good amount of fantasy sprinkled within.

Jane was certainly my most favorite character of all. This book toting, and book loving heroine was strong willed, witty, smart and entirely captivating. She made me LMAO, her dry wit and British humor had me shacking my head and grinning like a mad woman.

G, the horse, Gifford, was an almost perfect partner for her. The antics between those two made me chuckle and their relationship was sweet and wonderfully satisfying. They were a match made in book heaven.

I’m so glad to report that Edward got his own love story. Which I thought was fitting and exactly what he needed. It was certainly a case of opposites attract between them. Jane and G were a similar match and I must admit the authors have a way of creating couples that complement each other in the best of ways.

I loved the wackiness of the story and that the authors didn’t take anything too seriously. It made this entire experience so much more fun. I must say I have NEVER read a book like My Lady Jane before – and I don’t think there will be another quite like it. It will go on my shelf for unique storylines and I can’t wait what else these three authors are coming up with next.

I already have My Plain Jane (book 2) on my bookshelf, and hope it’s as good as this one. Wish me luck!!

Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…

Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…

Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.

The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?

  1. This is the push I needed in order to give this book a chance. On the other hand, I’m not sure if almost 500 pages of fun can keep my attention. I love Cynthia Hand’s books. Hope we still share the same sense of humor. Need to check the other two authors.

  2. Finally I know what this book’s deal is! I’ve seen it around and been intrigued-slash-confused by the cover, but now at last I know what’s going on. Not only that but I might have to pick it up, because I need something funny in my life!
