More Than Words – Mia Sheridan

This author is known for her emotional and romantic novels, and More Than Words did deliver exactly that.

Playing in beautiful France, which is on my bucket list and is one of my most favorite countries to visit, this love story was all kinds of romantic and emotionally touching. I must admit I don’t usually read this author’s books. I’m more the type that appreciates jerks and an edgy story with strong and kick ass heroines. But I wanted to read something different.

Even though I had this novel on my kindle for months now, it took me until this week to pick it up. And just to be totally honest, I got this book as an ARC but decided to wait for the audiobook after I experienced one book slump after another. And an audiobook always helps in these kind of situations.

So, let’s talk about More Than Words.

Callen and Jessica met as kids, struck up a friendship until one day Callen was gone. Jessica never found out what happened, where he went, or got a simple goodbye. Years later they accidentally met in Paris, and realized that they still felt drawn to each other after all these years.

This book is all kinds of romantic!!

Callen, struggling with secrets that could ruin his career and a past that still rears its ugly head, tries to keep their meeting as what it is – a short but heartfelt interlude for both of them. Throughout the years, Callen has become really good at keeping everyone at arm’s length. Of course Jessica turns out to be the one that could make a difference in his life, unfortunately Callen is still very much stuck in a self destructive time of his life.

Their time in France is beyond romantic and everything I would love for myself. Deeply emotional getaway weekends, together Callen and Jessica explore a country full of rich history that gives this novel a charming second love story. The author added a captivating layer of history that was unexpected but definitely added to the romantic overall feel, but I’m not sure how realistic and authentic it was. That’s something I would need to research.

At the end, the big emotional fallout was a bit cliche and predictable. Unfortunately I had a hard time getting through that particular scene. It was one of these ‘close your eyes until it’s over’ kind of moments. But in the end, the author wrapped the story up beautifully with a touching ending that was in every way satisfying.

Besides Callen not being my kind of guy, and the predictability at times, I can see how this novel would be perfect for anyone that loves touching and emotional love stories, that tug on a reader’s heartstrings.

The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other’s refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed herJessica’s first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.

Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen’s music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It’s only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.

But they don’t belong in each other’s worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.
