CORINA’S REVIEW

Even though Scoring Wilder is still one of my most favorite books EVER (not only by RS GREY standards) I haven’t had much luck recently with her other books. I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m not that much into rom-coms. So when the author starting writing more and more in that genre, I had a worse time finding books that I could enjoy. The last one that I liked and finished was The Beau & the Belle.

So color me surprised when I picked up HOTSHOT DOC and really enjoyed it.

But it shouldn’t come as a surprise, because HOTSHOT DOC wasn’t a real rom-com. It had some witty dialogues and Bailey and her sister’s back and forth was certainly hilarious, but the comedic aspect didn’t take over. Which made all the difference to me. And boy am I glad, because I love the office/boss trope and HOTSHOT DOC fit that bill splendidly.

So, for everyone who loves a great romance, some banter, but most of all a love story about a couple that doesn’t fall in love IMMEDIATELY. Instead they worked their way to getting to know each other, and tried to figure each other out before jumping into bed. This book is for all of you!!

I really enjoyed Dr Russell’s journey. Matt, was pretty much married to his job, and he didn’t just change overnight, which I would have hated. Instead his and Bailey’s work relationship slowly over time turned into more. And seeing him make those important steps was very endearing.

Bailey and her sister dominated some of my most favorite scenes. That teenage girl was the HOOT!!! The back and forth had me smiling like crazy, and I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it – Matt had a blast too!!

Of course the book had to have some kind of drama/conflict at the end, but I was pleasantly surprised by how the author decided to resolve it.

Something to remember: The author always makes her books available for a 99cent preorder. I can only recommend this to anyone who ever wanted to read her books or thought about giving it a try. Even though I DNFed her last two books, I still preorder them. 99cents is really nothing to sneeze at, and I rather take the chance than regret it later.

BLURB

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.
I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

  1. I read this at the weekend and while it’s not my favourite book by Grey it is a pretty good read. I probably do go more for the romcom’s so this was maybe a bit more serious than I prefer, like you though I loved the relationship between Bailey and her sister.

    1. I love how very opposite we are 😉 and I love that she writes for everyone – rom-com and more serious. Bailey and her sisters were the hoot!! I could have listened to them the entire day 😆
