CORINA’S REVIEW

Second Chance Romance
Sports Romance
Single Parent
Sweet

If any of those tropes tickle your fancy this is the book for you.

This book had it all. A sweet kid, sweet romance, a hero that got his second chance, and a mom that finally found her HEA.

I love seeing all these new and fresh voices that the publishers are bringing to the table.

Heartfelt, warm and sweet – Fumbled was one of those novels that are perfect for in between darker books. Light hearted, with an adorable boy to sweeten the deal, it has everything a romance reader would want.

Sports romance is one of my favorite tropes. It helps when the author knows what she is talking about, and as the wife of a former NFL player, she brings an insight view to the table that is rare in this genre.

For me, Fumbled unfortunately didn’t have the wow factor that others stories in this genre have. Maybe because it was all too easy. Too predictable and overly done. I was missing the something special to make this book a standout novel.

But that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a solid second chance sports romance. It just didn’t wow me. The sweetness of it all. The predictability and how fast the couple got back together – as if the ten years went by in a blink of an eye. The drama that felt like it was added just for the sake of it.

It was interesting that the author picked up one particular issue that has been in the news for years now, especially in regards to football. I applaud her for picking it up, but it felt more like an afterthought, and never really fit into the overall story. For me, it was a too heavy subject for such a light-hearted romance.

But otherwise, I can see how this book will make an excellent addition on everyone’s summer reading list.

BLURB

Fumbled - Alexa MartinSingle-mother Poppy Patterson moved across the country when she was sixteen and pregnant to find a new normal. After years of hard work, she’s built a life she loves. It may include a job at a nightclub, weekend soccer games, and more stretch marks than she anticipated, but it’s all hers, and nobody can take that away. Well, except for one person.

TK Moore, the starting wide receiver for the Denver Mustangs, dreamt his entire life about being in the NFL. His world is football, parties, and women. Maybe at one point he thought his future would play out with his high school sweetheart by his side, but Poppy is long gone and he’s moved on.

When Poppy and TK cross paths in the most unlikely of places, emotions they’ve suppressed for years come rushing back. But with all the secrets they never told each other lying between them, they’ll need more than a dating playbook to help them navigate their relationship.
