Day 4: Biggest Surprise
I’m a sucker for a great fantasy book. But there are not that many out there that balance romance with fantasy in such a way that I would rave about for days. A Promise of Fire reminded me of Kate Daniels, and Warprize (Chronicles of the Warlands, #1) by Elizabeth Vaughan (which started my fascination years ago with fantasy romance). The combination of sassy & strong heroine, and an overprotective alpha, will always pull me in. Amanda Bouchet’s debut novel, managed to be refreshing and captivating. I wasn’t able to turn pages fast enough. Lucky me, the second book is coming out in January.
Another great book that totally caught me by surprise was All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood.
I had no idea what I was getting into. I knew it was an unconventional love story. But wow, that barely scratched the surface. Bryn Greenwood’s writing was exceptional. And the story just pulled me in. It was intensely unique. I was rooting for the couple from the very first moment. I know that it touched a few topics that other reader might not have felt ok with. But for me it’s all about the idea, execution and quality of writing. And the author did that all exceptionally well. It left a lasting impression on me. It was my choice for the Goodreads Choice Awards.
