You’ve heard the saying before – don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s true! And this book is one of the best examples. The cover is truly horrendous. But the story is worth it!!!

If you liked Pestilence and War, or you enjoyed Kristen Ashley’s Golden Dynasty – this is THE book for you.

Let me tell you all the things I loved about it…

Bound to the Battle God is a slow burn romance, the couple doesn’t kiss until 50% into the book. And it’s not an Erotica novel. The amount of sex is average, in one word a perfect amount for such a long book.

It’s a portal fantasy, an earthling female is being transported to a different planet, WITHOUT the dreaded going back and forth (like Outlander), which I hate. The heroine stays where she is.

The hero is deliciously aggravating in his arrogant way (there is a reason for it), possessive, sweet, affectionate and very much godlike. The way he was portrayed was perfection! And the visible character growth was something I really enjoyed.

The heroine is from Earth, and has no issues standing toe to toe with our God of Battle. She enjoys pushing his buttons, and telling him NO whenever it suits her. She is mouthy and sarcastic – in short I was delighted by her. And because she was unafraid of him, her ignorance balanced their relationship and made them equals rather than God and slave, which I appreciated.

The story was unique. I was captivated by the characters, plot and the overall feel of the story. The couple was passionate, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Honestly, I hated putting it down, and every interruption was an annoyance. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

One of the only complaints I have is that the book was LONG!!!!

With 665 pages it was one long story. The beginning was a bit slow, but even though, I never felt that the story dragged. The amount of pages makes sense since it’s a big tale to tell. There were maybe some scenes that could have been cut, but in retrospect I’m glad it was a long book, because I didn’t want it to end.

Also there were a couple things that didn’t make much sense to me, like the heroine understanding everyone, but on the other hand can’t read their books. But in the end, those were a couple small things that didn’t really take away from the overall enjoyment.

I had the best time reading this book!!!

Bound to the Battle God – Ruby Dixon

Bound to the Battle God - Ruby DixonWhen I went to my neighbour’s apartment to investigate strange sounds, I never expected to fall through a portal into another world. Yet here I am, a stranger in an even stranger land… and I’m stranded. In this world, might makes right, men carry swords, and gods walk the earth. Within minutes of arriving, I’m enslaved!

Fun place…

How do I get home? GREAT question. Wish I had an answer!

The one person that might be able to help me is also the one person I want to throttle most. Aron, Lord of Storms, Butcher God of Battle, is my new companion. Or rather, I’m his. As Aron’s anchor to the mortal realm, I’m the one that’s supposed to be guiding him through his exile in the mortal world…

Ha. Joke’s on him. I know nothing about this place!

But Aron and I have a common goal – get home. And we’re bonded – anchor and god – with a bond unlike any other. So we travel together. We bicker. iWe bathe together. We fight our many, many enemies together. And sure, he’s a god, but he’s also an arrogant jerk. Brawny, smoking hot, irresistible jerk. I should want nothing to do with him. I certainly shouldn’t want to do things to him…

Mortals and gods don’t mix. We stick to the plan and ignore our attraction. Focused, with one goal in mind…

One task…
One goal…

I-oh heck, I’m going to end up kissing him again, aren’t I?

  1. I’ve been binge reading the Ice Planet Barbarian books by Ruby over the past month and while they all have truly hideous covers, I can’t get enough of them. They’re really well written and probably some of my favorite books from July. I’m so glad to here that this one was a winner too, albeit a bit long!

    1. I’ve seen her books, and I even read one of her Ice Planet Barbarian years ago, but I didn’t remember much, especially the writing. I was really surprised by how well it was written. I just wish she would change her covers – lol!

  2. LOL this is one of least likable covers from this author. I like her others covers for her Ice Planet Barbarians way more. But her writing is so fun and entertaining and I just enjoy her so much, so happy to see that you do too!

    1. I was blown away by it 😁 didn’t want to put it down. I wish there was a way to exchange ebook covers 😂 or make my own 🙈 – either way I’m glad I read it because I’m hooked – on this particular world.
