Book Review – Crown of Lies (Crown of Lies Duet #1) by Pepper Winters

“I met the boy I wanted. But then he vanished and a new man claimed me instead. My father approved, my colleagues congratulated, and behind closed doors, I was bedded by a stranger.”

Noelle Charlston lived a fairy-tale life: a doting father, a powerful job, and a future blessed with financial security.

However, two meetings with two men changed her happy existence forever. First, she met the boy who made her heart sing. Second, she met the man who made her blood quiver.

Noelle’s freedom was no longer hers. It belonged to the man her father believed was the perfect match. The man who pulled his lies over everyone he touched.
Including her.

Seduced and manipulated, Noelle lives two lives. The one everyone sees on the outside and the one no one sees on the inside. The lies he spins, the truth he hides, the mystery he webs—it’s all enough to slowly erode the woman she’d been and turn her into something else.

Until her past collides with her present.
And it’s her turn to lie.
To everyone…including herself.

My Review

This was such an intriguing story. From the start to finish, this book had me on the edge of my seat and my stomach was churning with nerves. I couldn’t put it down for a minute.

Noelle Charlston, young but also wise beyond her years, went through a horrific event on the eve of her 19th birthday. It shaped her, and the memories of the event as well as her savior didn’t let her go.

Three years later she still remembered the night just too well. She grew up to be a savvy business women, that had barely any time for friendships or relationships of any kind. All her time and energy went into running her families company.

One night she was being introduced to Penn Everett.

A mystery of a man. An imposingly arrogant and overwhelmingly sexual man. He set his eyes on her and there was nothing that Noelle could do to derail his focus or intention of having her.

Her father, wanting her to be taken care of,  played right into his hand, and sooner than she could have ever thought she was his to take.

He overwhelmed her with his demanding and controlling nature. She was not at all prepared for his all consuming assault on all of her senses. He intrigued but also annoyed her. Penn was a mystery in more than one sense and Noelle was drawn to him even so she fought it.

Those two played a fabulous game of cat and mouse.

And the intense chemistry between them ignited at the slightest touch.

But even so Noelle was attracted to him, she was also wondering who Penn really was!!

I NEVER saw the end coming.

Actually, I shouldn’t call it an ending since Crown of Lies was only book 1 in an amazing and nerve racking duet by masterfully skilled writer Pepper Winters. She definitely knows how to write scenes that grabbed me by the throat and didn’t let go. She writes books that are so suspenseful that afterwards I need a glass of wine to calm myself down again.

She did a phenomenal job of keeping me guessing until the very end! The twist at the end had my jaw dropping. I NEED to read book 2 NOW!!!

I can’t wait to read Throne of Truth, released February 28th 2017.
