Archangel’s Heart – Nalini Singh

Archangel’s Heart – Nalini Singh

I have followed this series since the very first book Angel’s Blood in 2009.  This series has not disappointed me yet.  Two years after the last book.  The story continues and follows the main couple Elena and Raphael through wars, hardships and discoveries.  In Archangel’s Heart, Elena and Raphael travel to Luminata so Raphael can meet the Cadre, his fellow archangels.  Of course, it’s never as easy as it seems, and not knowing what Lijuan is up to makes the situation even more tense.  This time, Sparkle aka Aodhan, accompanies them to Morocco.  Elena makes a few shocking discoveries concerning her lineage.  And it looks like as if the ending is getting nearer.

This is right after Kate Daniels my second most favorite series.  I love the characters, they are always unique and fascinating in their complexity.  The writing is fantastic. And the storyline is never boring.

Archangel’s Heart was not as action pact as some of the previous books in this series.  Which is a nice change, less people we invested in get killed.  The politics and machinations were fascinating in their ferocity and bloodthirstiness.  I’ve always loved the politics in this series.  The politics mostly stays in the Cadre, that makes it easy to follow.  The plot about Luminata was very interesting and I thought well done.  It also gave it a hint of mystery.  And I was very happy with the ending, I thought Elena had had enough death and loss in her life, so the ending was very uplifting.

The books about Elena and Rafael are by far my most favorite of all.  I adore their relationship.  There are not that many books out there that follow an already established couple.  A couple that grows stronger together and flourishes naturally over time. Kate and Curran in Magic Bites or Eve and Roarke Naked in Death are perfect examples.

But not only do Elena and Rafael grow, the supporting characters all have a chance to evolve and thrive. Little tidbits are giving throughout the book.
About the butler that is now married to the cook. Izzy, and Sam (whereas I would have loved to read more about those two.) I was positively surprised about Beth, she finally grew a spine. And just loved the interactions between Elena and Rafael’s Seven. And I absolutely adored that Sparkle was the main supporting character in this book. I had the feeling he was touching Elena much more at the end of the book. YAY!!!
I also was happy to read how many of the Cadre were enamored with Elena and showed incredible friendship towards both Elena and Rafael. Most are so cutthroat. It’s nice that they have some archangels in their corners.

So, as always a very satisfying addition to the series.

Archangel’s Prophecy – Nalini Singh

Archangel’s Heart – Nalini Singh

One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to Sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory.

Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within—truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is…

Nothing will ever be the same again.

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. lI also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.
