Winston Brothers Series

Beard in Mind

(Winston Brothers #4)

Expected publication: August 1st 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

All’s fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.
Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.
She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.

Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean missing out on what matters most.

Penny Reid is one of the most unique authors I know of.

I’ve always admired her for not writing what everyone else writes. Her prose and characters have always been unique and outside the norm. Penny Reid books have sass, humor, sarcasm, and smarts.

If you’ve read and loved any of her books you’ll adore Beard in Mind. The author managed to write a deeply fascinating and likable character in Shelly Sullivan. She was utterly different, battling her own insecurities and demons. Shelly was someone I would have loved to meet in RL. Her demeanor and personality was enthralling in it’s uniqueness but also in regards to her struggles. I was truly fascinated.

Beau Winston was the other half of the Winston twins. He was down-to-earth, straight forward, charming and super supportive. After many of his siblings found their partner in crime, he floundered a little with this turnabout and found himself searching for the certain something, or someone. He didn’t know what he was looking for until he found Shelly bent over one of the cars in their garage.

Shelly and Beau made me laugh so hard! I adored socially awkward Shelly and charmingly handsome Beau knock heads. Oh, how she made him mad. She almost made his head explode. It was a feast for the eyes.

I love enemies to lovers, especially if sparks fly and wits battle.

But I believe the heart of this story was when Beau became more and more complex while helping Shelly found her way out of her compulsive and obsessive tendencies. His utter devotion and support really endeared him to me. Beau not once doubted or retreated when it got messy or hard. From the moment he realized his feelings for Shelly he was completely, and unconditionally supportive. I loved that about him.

I loved even more that Beard in Mind played around the same time as Beard Science. That meant I had many, many scenes of CLETUS I could gush over. He is still my favorite ♡♡♡♡. And the entire Winston family had plenty of pages to ensnare me with their amazing family values and adorable personalities.

All in all, this book will be a HUGE hit with everyone that has read a novel by Penny Reid. Her unique style of writing as well as her many charismatic and fascinating characters made Beard in Mind a very satisfying read.
