BLURB:

They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed
to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer, and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it feels…familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else. Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew, is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

MY REVIEW:

A Boy Like You by Ginger Scott was something special.

A bit of mystery. A love-story. A good amount of angst. A second chance romance. And a book about hope. And maybe a dash of super natural. 😀

I adored the mystery part the most. It kept me asking and wondering.

In Ginger Scott’s newest book Joss/Josselyn was saved by a boy named Christopher, the next day he was gone. She couldn’t say thank you for saving her life, but she never forgot him, because what happened shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Years later, Joss now a high-school student and on a destructive path on her own, struggled to come to grips with her father’s alcoholism, his choice to not to be a parent or coach to her. Her mother’s disappearance. And mostly that she was still alive when she wasn’t supposed to be.

Until one day a new boy arrived in town that spoke to her in a way that she hadn’t felt in a long time. Wes, a high-schooler and talented baseball player, was drawn to Joss the same way as she was.

This story was wonderfully complex.

Joss was such an interesting but also complicated character. So stubborn and destructive, but also vulnerable and talented. She and her dad had such an interesting relationship. They were so similar in so many ways. Holding on to their fear, hurt, and anger for so long. Both were afraid of opening themselves for more hurt and pain.

Until Wes.

Wes was able to reach Joss in a way that balanced her anger with hope. Hope for a better relationship with her father. And hope for herself.

It was like Joss was floating aimlessly until Wes arrived. He anchored her. He gave her a reason, a goal. It felt almost like she was missing a piece of herself since that jarring event so long ago, and Wes brought it back.

Wes on the other hand was an enigma. He made me wonder.

And the ending – OMG!! I would have liked to be prepared for it.

But it did give me hope for book 2. Joss was in such a better place at the end. Strong, determined, looking positively into the future. I can’t wait to see her in book 2.
