Book Review – Tycoon by Katy Evans

Meet the Author:

Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…

BOOK REVIEW

Tycoon

Published June 20th 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

BLURB

He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.
Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.
That man is gone.
In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.
He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.
The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.
It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.
I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.
Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.
He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.
I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.
Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.
Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.

TIJUANA’S REVIEW

When I’m in the mood for a romance novel that’s sure to make me swoon over the hero, I grab a book by Katy Evans. She has a way of making the male lead appear larger than life. the way the heroine views her love interest is always so well detailed that I can’t help but fall madly in love right along with her. The emotional responses and developing feelings are so vividly described that I feel like I’m part of the narrative. I adore that. It’s the main reason I consistently come back to Katy Evans.

Here’s what I enjoyed:

The Cover! Whew, talk about Covergasm. I could stare at this baby for hours. Trust me, I’ve done the research. LOL
The basics – I’m a sucker for a second chance romance. I enjoy the shared history between the characters. Although Bryn and Aaric technically didn’t date when they were younger, he wanted her desperately. I loved the flashback screens that describe the moment he first saw Bryn. So sweet.
What I enjoyed most of all was the way Bryn views Aaric.

“Quiet, sexy, dangerous Christos.”
“He’s a powerful attractive man.”
“Pulsing Magnetizing.”

That over the top view of Aaric drew me in like a moth to a flame! Floved it!

I loved much of the novel, but had a couple minor issues. The OW and back and forth drama weighed the book down for me. I appreciate the obstacles they need to overcome to get their HEA, but it was a bit distracting especially considering the type of relationship Aaric has with the other woman. Just my 2 cents.

Those minor issues didn’t prevent me from enjoying this one. This is an enjoyable read.

Audiobook Review
This dual POV audiobook is narrated by Elizabeth Louise and Sebastian York. I absolutely loved the narration. I sped it up, but that’s because I’m a fast reader and prefer to listen at the pace I normally read. Both narrators were superb, but I was particularly impressed with Elizabeth since this was my first experience listening to a book she performed. Overall, excellent performance!

CORINA’S REVIEW

Ok, here we go…..

I need to mention the amazing cover!! Well done Katy Evans! It’s gorgeous, sexy, intriguing and spellbinding.:D

But the novel..

Tycoon, hmmmm

I didn’t LOVE Tycoon.

It was interesting, absolutely!!

I loved the idea of childhood friends meeting up later in life. They had this instant connection, their history of an unrequited first crush added to layers that gave this story depth. But what I really liked about Tycoon was Aaric Christos. I adored him!!! His coldish demeanor at the beginning was very intriguing to me. He didn’t immediately jump on Bryn Kelly when they met again after so many years. He was standoffish and arrogant – two characteristics that I find quite fascinating in men. On top of that Aaric made her work for the business loan she needed, and made the entire plot so much more authentic that way.

What I didn’t feel was passion.

And the never ending aggravation about his fiancee got old rather quickly.

At the end, Tycoon didn’t pull me in and make my heart go all crazy and fluttery. For me the deeply felt emotions, and all consuming love-story was missing.

That being said,, I’m already looking forward to her next upcoming book RACER.

  1. The not-so-stellar ratings kept me from reading this ASAP. But I’m still going to read it because Katy Evans. Ha! Great, honest review, sweetie. 🙂 I hope I’m going to love this book. ^^

    1. I hope so too Pearl!!! Some of her books are all time favorites of mine – so I had high expectations, but I also realize that not every of her books can be a hit. I think I’ll always read her books, they are entertaining and well written.

  2. Agree with you, Corina. This wasn’t the best of Elle Kennedy’s. I love the author so it’s painful to say it. I DNFed it. It was so hard for me to finish. 🙁

    Awesome review, my friend.

    1. look if I wouldn’t have listened to the audiobook I would have DNFed it too. I’m much more forgiving when listening to audiobooks. 😀

  3. The new format of the post itself and getting two reviews of the same book is so coool. I like it.
As for the book, the Other woman element is putting me off a bit… but It’s Katy Evans. I have read only her white house duology and I’ve been wanting to read other works by her. Do you have any recommendation?

    1. Amel, thank you so much!!!!! We thought a double review would make sense, since we really read a lot of the same books.:D We are glad you loved it!!!! I loved Womanzier (part of the Manwhore series), but most people love her REAL series. And you can easily try Tycoon. It’s a standalone and it might work for you.
