Book Review – Pucked Off (Pucked #5) by Helena Hunting

I read this book in one sitting and absolutely ADORED it!! Lance will steal your heart! Take my advice and READ it, you won’t regret it!!

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***

BLURB

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

MY REVIEW

I still remember the first time I read PUCKED in 2015 (not that long ago) and was cracking up over Violets word diarrhea and her Beaver and MC obsession. PUCKED UP and PUCKED OVER pretty much cemented my adoration for everything Helena Hunting’s writing style. Since then I have been looking forward to every single book in this series. Helena Hunting created a group of people that are so dear to me, that every time I read one of her books I feel like coming HOME!

With PUCKED OFF though she outdid herself.

Lance stole my heart.

I absolutly adored that the tone of this book was more somber, less comical. It was the right choice for someone with Lances’ past.

I literally SWOONED!!!

Lance was everything I could have imagined. After being the partier, womanizer, and manwhore – meeting the REAL him was eyeopening!!

If I could get my hands on either his mom or Tash I would give them a piece of my mind! It’s sobering to know that such people exist and are out there, destroying other peoples self-worth and confidence.

But back to Lance.

I honestly couldn’t get enough of him.

He was an incredible character. Deep layers, complex, damaged and complicated. To see him this vulnerable almost killed me but made him also so much more endearing to me. I believe he is the best character the author has ever written.

And the best character needed a perfect heroine.

Poppy, was all that and more. Her name alone was awesome.

Poppy turned out to be a unicorn. 🦄 She was part of his past but also represented all of his good memories, those that he had repressed with the bad ones to prevent him from being emotionally ripped apart.

Injuries on the ice and his messed up relationships made him all tense and unable to compete without getting help. So he relented to management and landed on Poppy’s massage table and on the receiving end of her touch.

Surprisingly her touch didn’t make him feel like spiders crawled all over him. And because of that he started to crave it – actually needed it!!!

His NEED was so raw and heart-achingly beautiful. Lance didn’t quite understand why or how, all he knew was that he couldn’t loose Poppy. He was so wonderfully apologetic and appreciative of all things Poppy. Honestly he couldn’t’ have been more perfect in those scenes.

Fortunately Poppy finally found her inner strength to take what she had always wanted, and what she wanted was Lance.

This was such a gorgeous, SWOOOOOOOOONY book!

I adore LOVE STORIES that bring people together that met before and just needed a little push from either FATE, FORTUNE, or FORTITUDE. Either way, in PUCKED OFF, the two people that were meant together ended up getting their HEA. The road was rocky but the outcome so worthwhile.

I thought Lance was incredible. I loved his quiet struggle, his weaknesses and shortcomings. He was as unique and authentic as you and me.

I adored that Poppy gave him the strength to put a stop to Tash’s manipulations. Poppy made everything better, and easier. She was all things GOOD that he needed an deserved to be in his life.

And because of that PUCKED OFF was all kinds of GOOD to me too!!!!

4.5 stars
