Genre: New Adult

BLURB

Rule #1: No hot guys.

It might sound ridiculous. I get it. It kind of is, but college was supposed to be my sanctuary. It was my place to start over. The rumors, the whispers, and the jealousy I endured through high school would all be gone.

No one would know me at college.

Rule #2: No drama.

I’d major in pre-law. I’d make a few loyal friends. Everything would be easy breezy. No one was going to use me or hurt me. I wouldn’t let them.

Rule #3: New year. New place. New me.

Right?

Wrong.

And all because of Shay Coleman.

Football captain and quarterback, he was the big guy on campus. The cocky guy in my political science class with a smirk. I hated him on sight . . .

. . . and he was about to break all my rules.

TIJUANA’S REVIEW

Books like this are why I love to read!

Hate To Love You tackles some pretty tough issues, yet remains sexy and entertaining! It’s sheer New Adult brilliance! The storyline is phenomenal and expertly written. This is my new favorite from Tijan.

It’s rare that I feel anything for a heroine before the hero. Typically, it’s all about the man. I’m shallow, but that’s okay. However, Kennedy (the heroine) is so much like me, that I couldn’t help but notice her immediately. Narcissistic, right?! Well….not really. Stories can transport us to far away lands, bring us face to face with unimagined possibilities, or in this case take us right back to Freshman year in college. #GOGATORS! My years in college were some of the best in my life and this book is so evocative of that time that I couldn’t help but LOVE it! Like Kennedy, I experienced the highs and lows of campus life. I loved that she’s self aware while also perfecting the coping mechanism of pushing people away. Luckily that coping mechanism gets smashed to bits when Shay Coleman enters her life.

I admit, I fell hard for Shay too. He’s such a great character. The “Big Man on Campus” who’s also a decent guy. Swoon! Experiencing these two grow and evolve over the course of the novel was a real treat! I can clearly recall similar experiences. Falling in love for the first time, creating a lasting bond of friendship with your roommates and friends, even dealing with backlash or instant popularity because your friends with the football players. This was a perfect walk down memory lane! It’s so true to life and expertly detailed. Fans of the New Adult genre will absolutely love it!

I highly recommend everyone grab this one A.S.A.P!

CORINA’S REVIEW

Don’t do what I did!!!

I started this book when I knew very well that I couldn’t finish it in one sitting and regretted it immediately. I LOVED this book!!! I was pulled in from the very first page, and had trouble putting it down.

Tijan’s books are usually always high on my priority list, but her college books eclipse even that standing. There is NOTHING I love more than her take on college life. I adore it, especially if she matches up a feisty and snarky heroine with a über-popular jock. I love this combination, it’s my kryptonite and I can’t get enough of it.

Tijan’s style is unique. I don’t think there is any other author that writes the way she does. Her books have a certain amount of angst, some more than others, and they follow a certain formula which makes it easy to become totally addicted to her style. They are comfort food for my soul.

I think what draws me to her style of writing the most is the way she depicts new/adult relationships. They feel authentic, especially in today’s times. College students want to have fun, they take chances, and sometimes it’s really only about sex and to get away from all the studying – and not about finding the next boyfriend.

Hate to Love You was pretty much exactly what I needed.

I adored Kennedy. Her feisty, and snarky attitude was a true joy. She was a kick-ass heroine – no question asked. She stood her ground, was blunt and honest to a fault, a little secretive, and hesitant opening up, and all in all quite a fascinating character. There were more than a few scenes that made me laugh out loud. And more than once I wanted to shout – You Go, Girl!!

Kennedy was my kind of heroine. She was FABULOUS!!!!

Shay – boy I had it bad for him.

He was the perfect guy for Kennedy. Even so he was super popular, friendly and incredibly nice – his smirks, and cocky attitude drew Kennedy like a moth to a flame. Their interactions were so Tijan. Loved them, all and every single one.

As always the supporting cast was excellent – entertaining, and well rounded. I also thought she did a fabulous job depicting college life – with all its ups and downs. She manages to keep a balance between relationship, and dorm life, as well as friends, and social engagements that just belong in books about college. It felt incredibly authentic and because of that equally spellbinding.

I liked that the drama level and angst were dialed down a little. I had the feeling Kennedy and Shay were a little more mature and balanced than Tijan’s regular cast – which I ADORED!! I’m not saying I wouldn’t have liked it otherwise, it was just a nice change in pace.

Hate to Love You reminded me a little of Broken and Screwed 1&2 which is next to FCH my favorite book of this authors. I was pretty much on cloud 9 the entire time I read this book. It would have been a devour in one sitting kind of book – if I didn’t screw it up and just would have waited for the weekend – which I won’t stop regretting and lamenting about.

And now, barely finished reading this awesome book – I already can’t wait to read her next one.

Winner is Karen Gagnon

We are starting a new feature on our blog. Every time we post a TJ & Co review we are also giving away an ebook copy of the book that we reviewed.

I should also mention that Tj and I do not talk about the books we review until after we each wrote our reviews. It’ usually “hey, I loved the book” – “me too”, we often chuckle when we realize we gave the same stars, which happens with 90% certainty. But we don’t talk about the book in detail until after the review. We write our reviews without influencing each other and we have no idea what the other writes until it’s too late. 😀

That’s why our TJ & Co reviews are so telling.

When we read the same books we are true BOOK TWINS!!

So in honor of TJ and I being twinsies we are giving away an ebook copy of

  1. I agree with you! I just read this one and the drama was dialed back. Although, I did think the drama was a little repetitive at times. It reminded me a lot of B&S or FCH. Those are my favorite Tijan series. I hope this one becomes a series.

    1. So true Deanna!!! I thought exactly the same, dialed down drama, and it was very similar to B&S and FCH – that’s why I’m not complaining.:D I can only hope it will turn into a series – can’t get enough of her books.

    1. Which one have you tried? I love her writing, not every book of hers is a 5 star but every single one is entertaining.;-)

  2. Loved both your thoughts on this book! I love a strong snarky Heroine and Kennedy sounds great to me! I can’t wait to meet Shay as well, he sounds so awesome! I haven’t read any books by Tijan yet and this sounds like a great place to start! Thanks for the chance to win! =D (I signed up for your newsletter using my home address btw)
